A Sonoran Snow Globe

Dark clouds over the Sonoran Desert.

Shake the Sonoran Desert, a dry-heat,
sun-beats snow globe, and watch
the grains of sand suspend and shatter
into a thousand twinkling stars. They drift
back to earth, settle into homes dotted
with cacti, ribbed bodies that thrive
on single drops of water rationed
to them by clouds whose vibrant rose
and honey hues are a metronome, marking
the rise and fall…
