A woman in a red ball gown and gold crown, dancing in front of birch trees in the fall.

There’s a stillness
in the trees, erupting
with scarlet and marigold,
that wasn’t here
in June. The wind
no longer invigorates,
but lulls, whispering
a song of cold and sleep.
